We are proud to share the successful completion of the new A-Grade Sports Oval at Christway College’s Wyndham Vale Campus, a 16,100 square metre project that has transformed a key part of the school’s outdoor learning and sporting environment. Beginning in late March, the project was delivered over an 12-week period, with works completed on schedule.

To bring this vision to life, the project combined detailed planning, precision construction, and a strong focus on long-term turf performance. From the earliest stages of earthworks through to final turf establishment, every step was carefully managed to ensure the oval would deliver both immediate visual impact and enduring playability for students and the wider school community.

The Science Behind Healthy Turf

A key feature of the project is the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system, designed to support consistent turf health and provide efficient water management across the entire surface. This system plays a critical role in maintaining year-round usability and ensuring the oval can perform under varying seasonal conditions.

Critical Early Establishment Phase

Following construction, the surface was planted with couch runners and over sown with rye grass seed to establish a strong, resilient playing profile. Early establishment showed excellent results, with strong germination and an even strike achieved within the first few weeks. Supported by favourable weather conditions, including timely rainfall and warm growing temperatures, the turf quickly developed into a healthy and consistent green cover.

As the profile matured, careful monitoring and maintenance ensured the surface continued to strengthen, with density and coverage improving steadily. This early establishment phase is critical to the long-term success of the oval, setting the foundation for durability, playability, and sustained performance under regular school use.
